Is your property suffering from damp? There could be a myriad of causes. We investigate the problem thoroughly, getting to the root of it and solving it using effective, proven methods. We are based locally in Seaham and work throughout the North East and West Coast.
Poor ventilation and/or excess condensation
Running a shower or a hot bath, drying clothes on the radiator, cooking, even just switching the kettle on - all of these actions cause droplets of moisture to permeate the air. These then stick to cold surfaces as condensation. Inadequate ventilation, however, means that there's nowhere for the excess moisture to go. The result? Damp conditions and mould growth.
Ventilation problems can also be caused by certain home improvement works. Remember, brickwork needs to breathe - if you block it off with artificial, non-breathable materials, you're preventing the movement of air and moisture, which can result in damp.
Penetrating damp:
This is caused by wind-driven rain working its way through your brickwork. Blocked gutters can also lead to water running down your walls, resulting in the same problem. All the moisture needs is a missing brick, a faulty fascia or a gap around your window frame, to get in and wreak havoc with your walls and decor.
Missing/faulty damp proof course:
The DPC is there to stop moisture working its way up through your masonry (known as rising damp). Rising damp is recognisable by tidemarks on the walls, alongside wet patches, peeling plaster and blistering paint. It will only occur on ground floors. Injecting a chemical, silicone-based damp proof course can provide effective treatment.
Faulty wall insulation:
We are specialised in the removal of faulty insulation. Read more about this service on our Cavity Wall Insulation Removal page.
