Wall tie replacement
Cavity wall ties provide structural stability to a building by connecting the inner and outer leaves of the cavity wall. Whilst today's wall ties are made from corrosion-resistant stainless steel, this is not the case with older properties. So, what happens when a wall tie corrodes? The build-up of rust causes them to expand. This places pressure on the masonry, resulting in the appearance of cracks (often horizontal or stepped), and visibly bulging sections. If left unattended the eventual result will be the collapse of the wall.
